Quick Weeknight Meal - Cheese Steaks!
Happy Saturday Everyone!
So, as you have read in previous blog posts, I am a working mom. When I get home, I need something to cook that is quick and easy, so I can spend more time with my family in the evenings. Cheese steaks are a simple solution to a quick fix, and is a crowd pleaser in my household. Victoria had her first cheese steak at 1 1/2 years old in Philadelphia at Pat's (yes I prefer Pat's over Geno's). Ever since then, she has been obsessed with cheese steaks.
If you have never had Steak-umm's you need to try them! They are an quick and easy to prepare, and can be found in the freezer section (by the frozen hamburger meat) at your local grocery store. We also make our cheese steaks with the "original" Cheez Whiz or "Whit Whiz" as they say in Philly. Here are the easy steps to prepare a quick dinner for you or your family.
Ingredients:
1 15 oz. can of Cheez Whiz
2 boxes of Steak-umm's
1/2 cup butter
1 large white onion - sliced
1 package of hoagie rolls
Directions:
- In a large sauce pan, melt the butter on medium to high heat.
- Slice your onion and add it to the melted butter.
- Saute down the onions until they become caramelized on medium heat - stirring occasionally so they do not stick to the bottom of your saucepan.
- With a griddle flat pan, heat the pan on medium heat.
- Place two at a time pieces of Steak-umm's beef onto the pan, cooking 1 minute
- Flip the beef Steak-umm's over, and cook for another 1 minute
- Remove Steak-umm's to a bowl or plate and repeat steps 5&6 until all beef Steak-umm's are cooked.
- If you prefer, cut up the beef Steak-umm's like Pat's in Philadelphia does, or leave them whole to layer on your bun.
- Meanwhile, toast your hoagie buns in the oven or oven toaster, and microwave the Cheez Whiz until heated through.
- Lastly assemble your sandwich and enjoy!
