Let's Talk Pie Crusts Ya'll

Image
So I have to admit, I don't always make my own pie crusts. Why?  Because I just don't have the time.  However, I will tell you, from scratch pie crusts just elevate your pies to a whole other level.  I actually am posting two different traditional pie crust recipes, so make sure to scroll all the way down to see both options. During the holidays, if I am doing any dessert pies, like the chocolate, pecan and apple cobbler I am making for Thanksgiving, I will always use the second recipe.  But the first traditional pie recipe seen below, I will typically use for my pot pies.  Every year, after making my husband his own turkey, I take the majority of the turkey meat and create homemade pot pies.  I typically will end up making 10-14 pot pies for Nathan and I to eat throughout the year, and keep Thanksgiving alive long after the holiday is over.  Since I make so many and you need a bottom crust and top crust, the first recipe below is just a little bit easier because it require

Turkey Brine Recipe

We are only a couple of days till TURKEY Day!  This is my husbands favorite holiday of the year, which means I can't be like everyone else and put out ANY Christmas decorations until the day after Thanksgiving. Because it is his favorite holiday of the year, we started a tradition when Nathan and I first got married.  Every year before Thanksgiving, I always make Nathan his very own turkey.  This allows us to have turkey at home to eat off of all week long, but I also make tons of homemade turkey pot pies, that we freeze and are able to eat off of every year. This year, because I have taken the whole week of Thanksgiving off, I decided to brine the turkey in advance, which is something I have never done before.  Well after researching lots of different turkey brine recipes, I decided to land on one from another Oklahoma native, the Pioneer Women! When you brine a turkey it takes time, because you have to really plan out when you are going to bake or roast your turkey and then

Sweet Spicy Sausages in the Slow Cooker

I have a confession to make - I have a love affair with appetizers, tapas, and finger foods.  Why?  Because one, they are so easy to make. Two they are so easy to take anywhere. And three, I get little flavors of everything all on one plate. With football season quickly approaching - tailgating, watch parties, and other holiday festivities are upon us all.  This is a surefire WIN and everyone will be talking about these sausages.  Plus it is a slow cooker recipe - so leave it and forget it (well not really)! I use to use this recipe on little smokies and meatballs, and although this is great for them, the sausages knocked it out of the park.  I made some last weekend, and had my husband bring them up to the field house to share with the other coaches. My phone was blowing up with the coaches wives asking for the recipe!  I kid you not, this is super easy!  Next time, the hubs wants me to take it up a notch and add a little kick of spice to it. Ingredients: 32 oz sausage -

Blueberry Pie for the Win!

It is closing in on the end of summer vacation, and September 22nd can't get here fast enough with the official start to fall.  However, in my house, the word fall means one thing and one thing only - FOOTBALL SEASON STARTING! That is our true start to fall in my house, as my husband is the defensive coordinator for one of the biggest and BEST high school football programs in the state of Oklahoma.  I laugh every year because I say "We interrupt this marriage to bring you football season!"  It is so true!  If you know anything about football in the great state of Oklahoma, high school and college games dominate social media with updates and banter back and forth between rivals. For me, it is a time where I get back in the kitchen again, as the hubby is off working late nights and 7 days a week at the field house, it leaves me to my own imagination in the kitchen.  Plus we work on feeding a football program of 175 plus (yes I said 175)!  I am bringing you this bluebe
